  • Today's Music: "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" originated as an 8th- or 9th-century plainchant, with the well-known metrical version sung today established in 1861 with a translation by John Mason Neal.  "E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come" uses text that comes from a number of verses in the Book of Revelation, especially chapter 22.  "The Last Words of David," by American composer Randall Thompson (1899-1964,) was commissioned to honor Serge Koussevitzky's 25th anniversary as music director of the Boston Symphony, and was premiered on August 12, 1949.
