The Knox Music Series of Hyde Park’s Knox Presbyterian Church presents Franz Joseph Haydn’s The Creation Parts I and II sung in English on Sunday, March 4, 3:00 p.m. Earl Rivers conducts the Knox Choir, Orchestra and Soloists, who will perform the roles of the Angels Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael.
Premiered in Vienna in 1799, The Creation illuminates and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Biblical books of Genesis and Psalms with additional texts from Milton’s Paradise Lost. Beloved by audiences for over two centuries as a choral/orchestral masterpiece, and second in popularity only to Handel’s Messiah, it is the first large-scale work in musical history to be published with a bilingual text (German and English).
The Knox Choir provides worship music and music leadership for the Sunday 11:00 a.m. Traditional worship services of Knox Church. The Knox Music Series annually features the Knox Choir in public sacred choral/orchestral masterworks. Free to the public as a community outreach program of Knox Church, the Series has been recognized by Cincinnati Magazine as the “Best Church Music” in Cincinnati.
Knox Presbyterian Church is at 3400 Michigan Avenue (corner of Michigan and Observatory) in Cincinnati’s Hyde Park neighborhood.
