At the center of our congregational life is corporate worship. From this center the ministries of education, outreach, social witness and fellowship radiate to and through the congregation. The sanctuary is located on the first floor and is accessible to the physically challenged via ramp from Michigan Avenue. The facility is also accessible by elevator from the rear of the parking lot. We worship at 8:00 am, 9:15 am and 11:00 am from the Sunday after Labor Day through the first Sunday in June. Throughout the summer months Sunday worship is shared at 10:00 am followed by “Lemonade on the Lawn.” Our worship reflects a “reformed and reforming” worship tradition, in part because our congregation includes many members uniting from other faith backgrounds and diverse Protestant traditions. Our worship blends formal and informal elements with a long tradition of strong, solid theological preaching. Music in worship is a distinctive mark of Knox Church. The Knox Choir, which includes more than 70 voices, is integral to worship. In addition, the Children’s Choir, Youth Choir and Adult Handbell Choir participate in Sunday worship on a monthly basis. To assist those with hearing or vision impairment, large-print bibles and bulletins are available and we also provide hearing devices to enhance hearing. Worship invigorates us, energizes us and unifies us as a single body of believers. As one, we discover the wonder of God's great love - Offering our prayers and hymns of praise - Sharing in the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion - Welcoming the word of the scriptures and the insights of our ministers. In harmony, we listen to the guidance of Jesus Christ - Exploring Christ's often subtle lessons - Seeking to make our everyday lives fit God's purposes for us - Thanking God with our time, our talents and with our gifts. We do hope that if you are a guest or visitor in worship you will sign the friendship pad as it is passed. You will find the pad at the end of each pew. You are invited to remain for informal conversation and refreshments during the coffee hour which is shared between the services in the Social Hall (room 100). The worship life of our congregation is overseen and directed by the Worship and Music Committee of the Session. Concerns or suggestions for our worship may be directed to the chairperson. |
