The Knox Music Series of Knox Presbyterian Church presents Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C Major, Op. 56 and Mass in C Major, Op. 86 on Sunday afternoon, April 14, at 4:00 p.m. at Hyde Park’s Knox Presbyterian Church, Michigan and Observatory Avenues. The program will end c. 5:45 p.m. The performance is free, and donations will be welcomed.

Featured performers in the Triple Concerto include well-known local artists Manami White, violin, Tom Guth, cello, and Knox Organist Christina Haan, piano. Featured in the Mass in C are the 50-voice Knox Choir and Knox Aria Soloists – Erin Keesy and Jackie Stevens, sopranos; Ellen Graham and Debra Templeman, mezzo sopranos; Andrew Jones and Matthew Swope, tenors; and Thomas Dreeze and Michael Young, baritones. Earl Rivers, Knox Director of Music, conducts. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto boasts extraordinary bravura and grandeur in the outer movements and affecting expressiveness in the relatively brief slow middle movement. Beethoven took a fresh look at the mass text and said of his Mass in C “I believe that I have treated the text as it has seldom been treated before.” The result is a dramatic and personal statement that captures in music moments of both bombastic exuberance and personal intimacy.
